About Project

The first project I worked on at Liberty Mutual was a redesign of an Information Warehouse application. For this project, I worked with a UX Contractor. First, we did some interviews with users of the current application to find out what the pain points were and what features they wished the application had. Based on our findings, we brainstormed a possible design idea and then created lo-fidelity wireframes. Next, we presented our lo-fidelity wireframes to the team in order to get their feedback and make sure everything was feasible from a development standpoint. Then, we went ahead and created a hi-fidelity version of the wireframes and presented those to the team as our final deliverable along with some style documentation.

Takeaways

This project taught me how important communication is between team members. Since my project partner and I were based out of different locations and collaborated remotely, we sometimes encountered a miscommunication.

About Project

My second project at Liberty Mutual was a redesign of a Loss Billing applcation. For this project, I partnered with another UX Contractor. Throughout this project, my UX coworker and I worked closely with our Systems Analyst, who wrote up the functionality requirements for the application, and our Business Analyst, who had an understanding of the current pain points of the application. After settling on an idea for the redesign, we split up the work that needed to be done. He focused mainly on building out the lo-fidelity wireframes and I worked on turning the lo-fidelity wireframes into a hi-fidelity prototype after getting feedback from our Developers, Business Analyst, and Systems Analyst. After the hi-fidelity prototype was complete, I lead a series of usability testing, in order to make sure our design met user needs. We received great feedback from the usability tests and used this feedback to iterate on our design. After the design phase of the project was complete, I worked closely with one of the front-end developers, contributing to the CSS work.

Takeaways

During this project, I made the mistake of not fully understanding how all the screens of the application were integrated, before the redesign. This made it challenging because I had to continuously edit previous screen designs.

About Project

The third project that I’ve worked on is a redesign of our current Commercial Insurance style guide. This project consisted of two parts. The first part consisted of combing through our current style guide and deciding which styles were out of date and/or not needed on our style guide anymore. The second part involved redesigning the look and feel of our style guide. I began brainstorming ideas for our new style guide by looking at other style guide examples. After deciding on a layout, I took note of the pain points of the current style guide and added some features that would help alleviate some of these pain points. I drew out my idea in a wireframe and then presented my idea to the development team to make sure it was feasible. After receiving approval from the development team, I handed the wireframes off to them and began work on compiling a document of all the content of the style guide. Presently, this application is still in the development phase. I have worked closely with the development team throughout this phase to make sure the styles are implemented correctly. I have also assisted them with some CSS work.

Takeaways

It is best to go with gut instincts when others are indecisive, otherwise little progress gets done.
